Register a server
Add an on-site server and connect a project to it, step by step.
ServersA server is the on-site system that collects a building’s data and sends it to the Cloud. Registering one tells the Cloud about it and produces the configuration the on-site install needs.
1. Add the server
Open Servers and click New, then give the server a name (and any other requested details) and save. It now appears in the Servers list.
2. Download its configuration
Open the server and download its configuration file. This file is what links the on-site install to this server in the Cloud — it carries the connection settings the server needs to run:
- Where to send data — the Cloud connection and the MQTT broker the server publishes to.
- Its local data sources — the on-site databases it reads metadata from and writes history to. The credentials for these are left blank in the download and must be filled in for the on-site environment.
- Optional connections — such as a TwinCAT (ADS) router, if the server reads Beckhoff PLCs.
You don’t tweak which projects the server feeds here — that’s done in the Cloud (step 3). The configuration is the technical link; the project connection is the logical one.
Hand the file to whoever installs the on-site server (often the commissioning engineer). They apply it during setup and complete any blank credentials, after which the server starts reporting.
3. Connect a project
A project draws its data from a server. When creating a project, choose this server; a single server can feed more than one project.
4. Confirm it’s reporting
Back in the Servers list, the server reports its health and telemetry (CPU, memory, disk) once it’s running on site — your sign that data collection is live. See Servers for the details.
