Users
Create and manage the people who can sign in to THMI — accounts, preferences, passwords, sessions, and two-factor.
The Users area of Administration is where you manage the people who can sign in. (What each person can do in a building is set separately through permissions and groups.)
Creating a user
A new user is created with a name, an email (used to sign in), and an initial password. The user is required to change that password the first time they sign in, so the initial one is only ever temporary.
The user account
Each user has:
- Account type — an ordinary user, or an administrator with system-wide access.
- Enabled — whether the account can sign in at all. Disable it to block access without deleting the user.
You can edit a user’s name, account type, and enabled state at any time.
Preferences
Each user has personal preferences that control how the apps look and read for them:
- Language and theme.
- Time zone — used when showing timestamps.
- Engineering units — metric or imperial.
- Object names — whether to show system names, custom names, or both.
Passwords, sessions, and security
From a user’s page you can:
- Set a new password for the user.
- Force a password reset — require the user to choose a new password the next time they sign in.
- Terminate sessions — sign the user out of all devices at once, for example if a device is lost.
For stronger sign-in, a user can use two-factor authentication — either a Google Authenticator code or a YubiKey hardware key.
Removing a user
A user can be deleted when they should no longer have access. To keep the account but block access temporarily, disable it instead.
