Values
See live tag values and change writable tags.
Day-to-day work with tags is about their values — seeing the current reading and, where allowed, changing it. (How values are recorded over time is covered in History; the other settings that shape a value are in Formatting, Limits, and Transformation.)
Live values
Each tag shows its current value, updating as new data arrives from the building. You’ll see these values in the tags list, on pages, and wherever a tag is referenced.
General settings
Every tag, whatever its source, shares a few core settings:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | Identifies the tag. An optional custom name is a friendlier alias you can choose to show instead of (or alongside) the system name. |
| Description | Free text describing the tag. |
| Enabled | Whether the tag is actively collecting data. Disabling it stops the tag from receiving or processing new values without deleting it. |
| Data type | How the raw value is interpreted (for example int16, float, double, boolean, or an array type). |
| Writable | Whether users with permission can manually set the value. |
Changing a writable tag’s value
When a tag is writable and you have permission, you can set its value directly — for example adjusting a setpoint. Your project may require a comment when a value is changed, so the reason is recorded. Tags that aren’t writable, or that you don’t have permission to change, are read-only.
Permission normally comes from your project role, but an individual tag can override it for particular people — a setpoint that only a few should touch can be closed off without changing anyone’s role. See Item permissions.
