Tag settings

The settings every tag shares — values, formatting, limits, transformation, and history.

Whatever a tag’s source — a device it reads over a protocol, or a function tag computed from others — every tag shares the same core settings. This section covers each of them in detail.

  • Values — the live value, its data type, and whether the tag is writable.
  • Formatting — how the value is presented: unit, decimals, and value mappings.
  • Limits — the valid or expected range, used for validation and display.
  • Transformation — scale and offset applied to the raw value before it’s stored.
  • History — whether and how the tag’s values are logged over time.

The source-specific settings (a device tag’s addressing, a function tag’s script or inputs) are covered under Devices and Function tags.
