Alarm categories

Group alarms to make them easier to filter and to control who can do what.

Alarm categories group your alarms so they’re easier to filter in the Alarm Manager — and they control who is allowed to do what with the alarms in each category.

Why use categories

In a busy project, categories let you separate alarms into meaningful groups — for example by system, area, or responsible team — so people can focus on the alarms that concern them.

Category permissions

A category is also where alarm access is decided. Each user and user group is given one level on it:

LevelCan do
NoneCannot see these alarms at all
ViewerSee the alarms
OperatorSee, acknowledge and snooze; a comment is required when acknowledging
Operator+The same, without the comment requirement

That’s what makes a wide audience possible without a free-for-all: everyone can be Viewer on a category while only the team responsible for that system is Operator on it.

A category starts closed — until levels are set on it, its alarms are visible to nobody. Set them from the category’s Permissions menu; see Item permissions for the full picture.
