Alarms

How THMI alerts you when something in your building needs attention.

An alarm watches your data and raises an alert when something needs attention — for example a value going out of range, a measurement changing too often, or a device that can no longer be reached.

It helps to separate two ideas:

  • An alarm is the rule you set up — what to watch and when it should trigger.
  • An active alarm is what happens when that rule is met — the alert you then see and respond to.

How an alarm is defined

An alarm watches one or more tags and triggers based on a condition, such as:

  • a value being above, below, or equal to a limit,
  • a value changing too many times within a period,
  • a device failing to respond (a ping check),
  • or a combination of values falling outside an allowed range.

Alarms also have a priority (low, medium, or high) so the most important ones stand out, and they can be organized into categories to make them easier to filter and manage.

Responding to active alarms

When an alarm triggers, it appears in the Alarm Manager, where you can see what’s active and respond:

  • Acknowledge an alarm to show you’ve seen it and are handling it.
  • Snooze it to temporarily pause its notifications.
  • Add comments to record what’s happening or what was done.

An alarm returns to normal on its own once the condition that triggered it is no longer true.
